Marble analysis, 4790
Tomb stela: youth and his servant
White marble
Marble origin: Paros (Paros-Choriodaki) (Greece)
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: heteroblastic
Maximum grain size (MGS): 2.05 mm
δ18OV-PDB: -0.89 ‰
δ13CV-PDB: 2.02 ‰
Cathodoluminescence color: brown-pink
Cathodoluminescence intensity: weak
Cathodoluminescence distribution: homogeneous
Stable isotope data fall in a zone where different source areas (i.e. Carrara, Hymettus, Paros, Thasos, Marmara) overlap and the data are inconclusive. However, the MGS, the texture and the brown-pink color of luminescence support Paros-Choriodaki as the origin of this marble.
