Marble analysis, 2005.4.A
White marble
Marble origin: Carrara (Italy)?
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: heteroblastic
Maximum grain size (MGS): 0.52 mm
δ18OV-PDB: -1.78 ‰ -1.67 ‰
δ13CV-PDB: 2.27 ‰ 2.23 ‰
Cathodoluminescence color: brown-pink and brown
Cathodoluminescence intensity: weak
Cathodoluminescence distribution: heterogeneous
Stable isotope data fall in a zone where different source areas (i.e. Carrara, Göktepe, Paros, Marmara, Thasos, Hymettus) overlap and the data are not conclusive. The MGS, the texture and the color of luminescence have led us to propose Carrara as the origin of this marble with some reservation.
