Funerary stela of Leontion, Aischylos and Damoxena
Greyish limestone
Limestone origin: Corfu (Greece)
Microfacies: biomicrite
Bioclasts: radiolarians
When the artefact was made in the country of its discovery locality, the importation of this limestone is not realistic as the subsoil of Corfu contains such rocks. In the north of the island (Pantokrator mountain), Triassic and Jurassic limestones were quarried during the Venitian occupation, perhaps at the location of antique quarries.
