White marble
Marble origin: Paros (Paros-Choriodaki) (Greece)
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: heteroblastic
Maximum grain size (MGS): 1.51 mm (4756); 1.6 mm (ad 4756)
δ18OV-PDB: -1.60 ‰ (4756); -2.47 ‰ (ad 4756)
δ13CV-PDB: 2.84 ‰ (4756); 2.20 ‰ (ad 4756)
Cathodoluminescence color: brown-pink (4756); blue (ad 4756)
Cathodoluminescence intensity: weak
Cathodoluminescence distribution: homogeneous
Stable isotope data fall in a zone where different source areas (i.e. Carrara, Marmara, Paros, Hymettus, Aphrodisias, Afyon, Göktepe, Naxos) overlap and the data are not conclusive. However, the MGS, the texture and the color of luminescence of the two samples (brown-pink and blue) support Paros-Choriodaki as the origin of this marble.
