White marble
Marble origin: Afyon (Turkey)
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: heteroblastic
Maximum grain size (MGS): 0.79 mm
δ18OV-PDB: -4.12 ‰
δ13CV-PDB: 1.22 ‰
Cathodoluminescence color: orange to brown and dark brown
Cathodoluminescence intensity: intermediate to weak
Cathodoluminescence distribution: heterogeneous
Stable isotope data fall in a zone where different source areas (i.e. Marmara, Paros, Aphrodisias, Afyon, Naxos) overlap and the data are inconclusive. However, the MGS, the texture and the cathodomicrofacies support Afyon as the origin of this marble.
