Marble analysis, 4783
Fragment of a relief: double axe with fillet
White marble
Marble origin: Göktepe (Turkey)
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: heteroblastic
Maximum grain size (MGS): 0.58 mm
δ18OV-PDB: -2.40 ‰
δ13CV-PDB: 2.94 ‰
Cathodoluminescence color: dark purple and beige
Cathodoluminescence intensity: weak
Cathodoluminescence distribution: heterogeneous
Stable isotope data fall in a zone where different source areas (i.e. Carrara, Hymettus, Paros, Thasos, Marmara, Göktepe, Afyon) overlap and the data are inconclusive. However, the MGS, the texture and the blue color of luminescence support Göktepe as the origin of this marble.
