Relief fragments

White marble
Marble origin :
56.80.A: Paros (Paros-Marathi) (Greece)
56.80.3.A: Carrara (Italy)

56.80.1-4 A
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: heteroblastic
Maximum grain size (MGS): 1.5 mm
δ18OV-PDB: -3.19 ‰  -3.22 ‰
δ13CV-PDB: 5.59 ‰  5.62 ‰
Cathodoluminescence color: blue-pink
Cathodoluminescence intensity: weak
Cathodoluminescence distribution: homogeneous

All data are in accordance with Paros (Paros-Marathi) as the marble origin.

56.80.3.A
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: heteroblastic
Maximum grain size (MGS): 0.70 mm
δ18OV-PDB: -0.77 ‰
δ13CV-PDB: 2.31 ‰
Cathodoluminescence color: brown and brown-red
Cathodoluminescence intensity: weak
Cathodoluminescence distribution: heterogeneous

Stable isotope data fall in a zone where different source areas (i.e. Paros, Thasos, Marmara, Carrara, Hymettus) overlap and the data are inconclusive. However, the MGS, the texture and the color of luminescence support Carrara as the origin of this marble.
