Marble analysis, 3934
Statue of Isis Pelagia
White marble
Marble origin:
Sample 3934: Paros-Chorodaki (Greece)
Sample 3934 I: unknown
Samples 3934 II, 3934 III et 3934 IV: Carrara (Italy)
Sample 3934
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: heteroblastic
Maximum grain size (MGS): 2.80 mm
δ18OV-PDB: -4.21 ‰
δ13CV-PDB: 1.69 ‰
Cathodoluminescence color: brown-pink
Cathodoluminescence intensity: weak
Cathodoluminescence distribution: homogeneous
Stable isotope data fall in a zone where different source areas (i.e. Marmara, Paros, Aphrodisias, Afyon, Naxos) overlap and the data are not conclusive. However, the MGS, the texture and the brown-pink color of luminescence support Paros-Chorodaki as the origin of this marble.
Sample 3934 I
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: heteroblastic
Maximum grain size: 0,64 mm
δ18OV-PDB: -7.43 ‰
δ13CV-PDB: 2.16 ‰
Cathodoluminescence color: brown-orange
Cathodoluminescence intensity: intermediate
Cathodoluminescence distribution: homogeneous
The texture, the MGS and the cathodomicrofacies are in accordance with Carrara as the marble origin. The isotope data do not match any with the Carrara data.
Samples 3934 II, 3934 III et 3934 IV
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: heteroblastic
Maximum grain size: 0.63 mm (3934 II) 0.51 mm (3934 III) 0.58 mm (3934 IV)
δ18OV-PDB: -1.50 ‰ (3934 II) -1.88 ‰ (3934 III) -1.73 ‰ (3934 IV)
δ13CV-PDB: 2.57 ‰ (3934 II) 1.93 ‰ (3934 III) 2.11 ‰ (3934 IV)
Cathodoluminescence color: orange, brown and dark brown
Cathodoluminescence intensity: intermediate
Cathodoluminescence distribution: heterogeneous
All data are in accordance with Carrara as the marble origin.
