The relief shows a man and a woman on a throne. The long-haired, bearded man looks us in the eye; he holds a two-handled cup (kantharos) in his right hand, and extends his left in greeting. His companion lifts her mantle before her face with her left hand, and holds a pomegranate in her right, which rests in her lap. Two people on a much smaller scale present the enthroned figures with offerings: the man holds a rooster and an egg, the woman a flower and a pomegranate. A large snake coils behind the lion-footed throne. The relief, from the vicinity of Sparta, may represent two deceased who were revered as heroes.
