Condition
The plaster cast of the upper half of the statue (Ag.355) is lost.
References
The original kore was carved of expensive Parian marble, while its column-shaped base was made of cheaper, Pentelic marble quarried near Athens. The inscription engraved on the base speaks for the statue: “(I) was offered by Euthydikos, the son of Taliarchos.” This is one of the latest Archaic kore statues, created in the times of the Persian Wars, at the very end of the Archaic period. Here, the elaborate decoration of the drapery is gone, and the simplicity of modelling already points to the artworks of the early Classical period. The upper half of the plaster cast is lost.
