The colossal female figure wears a fine chiton fastened at the right shoulder, and slightly fallen off the left one. Her mantle is draped around her hip. The hair is tied into a small bun, the head is decorated with a diadem (stephane). She held a tall sceptre in her right hand, and a round libation dish (patera) in her left. The statue may have been the cult image in a sanctuary of Iuno. Its model was probably created in the late fifth century BC by Agorakritos from Paros. It is also possible, however, that the latter image did not represent Hera, but Aphrodite or Tyche (Fortune).
