Fragment of a colossal statue. The upper body of Jupiter is naked, the head turns slightly to the right. The face is framed by a curly beard and hair as if blown by the wind. Originally, the statue perhaps represented the god as fighting against the giants. In the seventeenth century the torso was held by the French royal collection, and stood in the park of Versailles for years. Although the upper body originally formed part of a standing figure, it was complemented along a unique concept. The waist of the deity was covered with drapery, and the body placed on a pillar, transforming the torso into a herm.
