The statue depicts a standing nude. His raised left hand may once have held a spear. The right hand is at his back; the gesture shows he has nothing to do. We do not know whom the figure depicts. His nudity likens him to mythical heroes, he may thus be one of them (for example a Dioskouros, the son of Zeus), but also a ruler or general shown as a hero. A bronze statue of a seated boxer was also found near the original bronze piece. Both were carefully hidden in late antiquity, but it is uncertain if they originally belonged together. The colour of the cast evokes the material of the bronze.
