White marble
Marble origin: Carrara (Italy)
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: homeoblastic
Maximum grain size (MGS): 0.47 mm
δ18OV-PDB: -2.37 ‰
δ13CV-PDB: 2.23 ‰
Cathodoluminescence color: brown-orange
Cathodoluminescence intensity: intermediate
Cathodoluminescence distribution: homogeneous
Stable isotope data fall in a zone where different source areas (i.e. Carrara, Hymettus, Paros, Thasos, Marmara, Aphrodisias, Naxos) overlap and the data are inconclusive. However, the MGS, the texture and the orange color of luminescence support Carrara as the origin of this marble.
