Marble relief fragment: Cybele's triumph

White marble
Marble origin: Carrara (Italy)

Mineralogy: calcite and dolomite
Texture: homeoblastic
Maximum grain size (MGS): 0.63 mm
δ18OV-PDB: -2.97 ‰
δ13CV-PDB: 2.07 ‰
Cathodoluminescence color: orange, brown, dark-brown and red
Cathodoluminescence intensity: intermediate
Cathodoluminescence distribution: heterogeneous

Stable isotope data fall in a zone where different source areas (i.e. Carrara, Hymettus, Paros, Thasos, Marmara, Aphrodisias, Naxos, Göktepe, Afyon) overlap and the data are inconclusive. However, the MGS, the texture and the cathodomicrofacies support Carrara as the origin of this marble.
