Marble analysis, 56.2.A
White marble
Marble origin: Marmara (Turkey) or Paros (Paros-Choriodaki) (Greece)?
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: heteroblastic
Maximum grain size (MGS): 1.40 mm
δ18OV-PDB: -0.43 ‰
δ13CV-PDB: 3.00 ‰
Cathodoluminescence color: blue-pink and brown-red
Cathodoluminescence intensity: weak
Cathodoluminescence distribution: heterogeneous
Stable isotope data fall in a zone where different source areas (i.e. Paros, Thasos, Carrara, Marmara) overlap and the data are inconclusive. However, the color of luminescence support Marmara or Paros as the origin of this marble.
