Marble analysis, 56.137.A
White marble
Marble origin: Paros (Paros-Choriodaki) (Greece)
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: heteroblastic
Maximum grain size (MGS): 0.70 mm
δ18OV-PDB: -1.38 ‰
δ13CV-PDB: 2.32 ‰
Cathodoluminescence color: brown-red
Cathodoluminescence intensity: weak
Cathodoluminescence distribution: heterogeneous
Stable isotope data fall in a zone where different source areas (i.e. Carrara, Hymettus, Thasos, Paros, Marmara) overlap and the data are not conclusive. However, the MGS, the texture and the brown-red color of luminescence support Paros as the origin of this marble.
