Marble analysis, 4800
White marble
Marble origin: Pentelikon (Greece) or Afyon (Turkey)?
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: heteroblastic
Maximum grain size (MGS): 0.82 mm
δ18OV-PDB: -6.16 ‰
δ13CV-PDB: 2.75 ‰
Cathodoluminescence color: yellow, brown and dark brown
Cathodoluminescence intensity: strong to weak depending on the place (aspect of cooling embers)
Cathodoluminescence distribution: heterogeneous
The stable isotope data, the MGS, the texture and the cathodomicrofacies support Afyon or Pentelikon as the origin of this marble. However, the cathodoluminescence pattern is closer to that of Pentelikon marble than to that of the Afyon marble.
