White marble
Marble origin: Carrara (Italy) or Göktepe (Turkey)?
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: homeoblastic
Maximum grain size (MGS): 0.70 mm
δ18OV-PDB: -1.68 ‰ -1.4 ‰
δ13CV-PDB: 2.27 ‰ 2.39 ‰
Cathodoluminescence color: light purple and light brown
Cathodoluminescence intensity: weak
Cathodoluminescence distribution: homogeneous
Stable isotope data fall in a zone where different source areas (i.e. Carrara, Hymettus, Paros, Thasos, Marmara, Göktepe) overlap and the data are inconclusive. However, the MGS, the texture and the color of luminescence support Carrara or Göktepe as the origin of this marble.
