Marble analysis, 4828
Fragment of a votive relief: man reclining on a kline
White marble
Marble origin: Marmara (Turkey)
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: heteroblastic
Maximum grain size (MGS): 2.10 mm
δ18OV-PDB: -1.82 ‰
δ13CV-PDB: 3.20 ‰
Cathodoluminescence color: blue and dark blue
Cathodoluminescence intensity: weak
Cathodoluminescence distribution: heterogeneous
Stable isotope data fall in a zone where different source areas (i.e. Paros, Thasos, Marmara, Carrara, Hymettus) overlap and the data are inconclusive. However, the texture, the MGS and the blue color of luminescence support Marmara as the origin of this marble.
