White marble
Marble origin: Carrara (Italy)
Mineralogy: calcite
Texture: heteroblastic
Maximum grain size (MGS): 0.58 mm
δ18OV-PDB: 1.27 ‰
δ13CV-PDB: 2.31 ‰
Cathodoluminescence color: brown-orange to brown-red
Cathodoluminescence intensity: intermediate
Cathodoluminescence distribution: heterogeneous
Stable isotope data fall in a zone where different source areas (i.e. Carrara, Paros, Hymettus, Aphrodisias, Afyon, Göktepe, Marmara) overlap and the data are not conclusive. However, the MGS, the texture and the orange color of luminescence support Carrara as its origin.
