Limestone
Limestone origin: Lecce area (Italy)
Microfacies: biomicrite

It is realistically that this sculpture was carved from a limestone of the Lecce area, most probably the Lecce stone (Pietra di Lecce) used since Antiquity. This Pietra di Lecce is a Miocene biocalcarenite with planktonic foraminifera as the rock of the sculpture.
